Thoughts about government
I personally think that the government, mostly the PAP have done a great job in turning singapore into a global and economical country since the old days. Especially Mr Lee Kuan Yew, a person who i have great respect for. To almost single-handedly lead singapore from a small, poor country into an global power todayis a remarkable achievement. Things like national hygiene and health have been well taken care of andSingaporeans are well provided for, with a roof over our heads and almost eveyone is literate. We definitely can say that we all have bright futures ahead of us and we are well taken care of because of the work of the government. Some descisions however have not gone down well with the citizens ,for example raising the GST from an already high 5% to 7%. This has caused people to be frustrated because of the high price they have to pay. But because of our high standards of living and stron economy, the government has no choice but to raise the GST. Many singaporeans do not know, but in european countries where the economy is strong GST cancome up to 10% and above!
One policy that is well portayed in the government is transparency. Letting the public know what the ministers are doing in parliament is essential for a nation. Policies that are being discussed should be in the knowledge of the people and the people should also have a say in it. By showing sesions in parliament on tv, peoplecan see what is going on and how the matter is being discussed. Our Government is also very anti-corrupt which is a highly respectable thing in a money driven world. The refusal of bribery is very important and has been well done by the government.
